Criterion text
Raw materials of fruit, berries and vegetables grown in greenhouses, shall be produced in accordance with regulation (EU)2018/848 on organic production and labelling of organic products as well as in accordance with at least one of the following requirements:
Either:
- of the total annual energy use for heating, cool rooms, lighting and production of CO2 at least 80 per cent shall come from renewable energy1 or waste heat.
or:
- fossil energy use shall not exceed 2.5 kWh per m2 and growing week, on average during the cultivation period.

Verification
Upon request, the supplier shall be ready to present, for example:
- Certification, along with appropriate labelling, such as KRAV or other certification showing that the requirement is met.
Proposed follow-up
This requirement can be followed up, for example, by carrying out spot checks, on one or more occasions, on delivered food products. This can be done by checking one of the following:
- Product labelling, such as KRAV-labelling or equivalent.
Make use of specialist expertise in your organisation when following up the summitted evidence of compliance. This could, for example, be an environmental or sustainability strategist with extensive expertise within questions related to sustainability.

EU regulation for organic production covers production, preparation, storage and import of organically produced agricultural products, including food products from aquaculture and other food products.
The advanced criterium for organic fruit and vegetable products grown in greenhouses covers several added values for energy use compared with the EU organic regulations. Heating comprises the largest part of the climate impact of greenhouse cultivation, however, even horticultural lighting can have a significant effect for food products that require a lot of light. Energy use varies greatly during the year. Heating requires a lot of energy during the winter, whereas moisture regulation and carbon dioxide production are mainly used during the summer. Energy use within greenhouse cultivation is mainly for heating, moisture regulation, horticultural lighting, carbon dioxide production and cooling rooms.
