A feature for secure data deletion shall be available for deleting user data in all data storage units present in the product1 (see explanatory note below). Instructions for using this feature and information about the standard(s) used for secure data deletion shall be provided in the user manual or similar and/or via a link to the manufacturer's website.  

1A secure data deletion feature can be made available by

  • pre-install it on/in the product before it is delivered
  • provide the software for download on the website free of charge
  • providea secure remote removal service  free of charge upon request
  • provide a secure on-site data deletion service free of charge upon request.
